Satelite radio

Satellite radio is a new technology that has become popular in recent years. Because radio has to adjust its programming to be in compliance with a mass audience and advertisers alike, many people are unhappy with the type of broadcasts. The music is often a handful of popular songs repeated until the audience more than tires of hearing them. As well, controversial programming is monitored closely to ensure advertisers don't pull their money from the station.

Satellite radio counters the problems of FM radio stations that are free for listeners but require a lot of advertising and unpopular content to wade through in order to find the songs one likes. By offering subscription services, satellite radio can specialize the content to more specific audiences and weed out the content that makes many people so disenchanted with FM radio stations.

Satellite radio requires special radio equipment in order to listen to it. A standard AM/FM radio will not receive the satellite broadcasts. This is often a large obstacle to getting people to make the transition from traditional FM radio to satellite. However, once the initial investment is made and the equipment is gathered, people who subscribe to satellite radio are much happier with the service. The content can be dictated by the listeners in a different way. Satellite radio channels are extremely varied and often quite specific to a specific type of music, sport or entertainment.
